He worries that today's investors, our regulators, -- heck, even the HFT algorithms themselves -- don't fully understand the risks market prices face in the brave new era of bot-dominated trading. For instance, Hunsader estimates that HFT algorithms are responsible for 70%(!) of all completed transactions on our exchanges, and for 99.9%(!!!) of all exchange quotes. The pictures of trading floors you see on TV, where the people in bright jackets appear frantically busy in making their trades, have no bearing -- claims Hunsader -- on the actual trading action. The real action happens across fiber-optic cables, on racks of servers in cooled rooms; where an arms race defined by cable length and switching speeds is ...

I give you 10 ways to earn passive income. I'm currently doing it in 5 of the ways, and plan to experiment with the rest over the next few years. Here they are: Teach Online Courses: Many of you know that I have a number of online courses that I sell on sites such as Udemy.com, Skillfeed.com, or Skillshare.com. I began in October 2012, and it has been my most successful form of earning passive income. I’ve made tens of thousands of dollars from selling courses. This money has helped pay for a car in cash, go on vacation to the Philippines, pay down student loans, buy an engagement ring, have a wedding, and lots more! Sell eBooks on Amazon: I started selling two eBooks on Amazon in October, 2014. One is about Teaching Online courses, and the other is about starting a Freelance Business. Since launching, they continue to sell about 5 copies per day. Averaging an extra $100 per month is amazing! Start a YouTube channel: A while back, YouTube started allowing anyone to become a partner and put ads on their videos. I know that you hate having to watch ads on YouTube, but on the other side of those ads is a creator who is trying to make a little bit of extra income through their hard work. I have two channels that bring in some extra dough each month - my Video School Online channel & my Cat Video channel. The cat channel video is making about $6 a month. It’s not a huge amount, but it does pay for a new toy or treat for our dear Zorah each month! Cat YouTube Channel Earnings Become an Affiliate: If you have a website that contains useful information to viewers, you can put affiliate ads on the site. When someone clicks on those links and purchases something, you make a little bit of information. For example, on my resources page, I share some of my favorite resources including ThemeForest (where I purchase web themes from). I love sharing their website because I truly believe in them, and use them. It also helps the viewer out who is wanting to build their own website. And I get a few bucks when someone clicks through that link and buys something. You can become an Affiliate for most websites. Just scroll to the bottom of the website, and in the footer is usually a link for ‘affiliates’ or ‘partners.’ Investing for Retirement: From a young age, I have always been smart about money. I remember being a teenager and keeping money in an Etrade account and investing in General Electric. This was my first retirement account. Now, I try to put away any extra money (mostly money made passively from the above methods) into retirement accounts and other investment accounts. Now, I’m not a financial advisor, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. But I think it’s really important to start saving now (or as early as possible). If you’re not already saving, it’s too late. Why is this passive income? Investing is literally the easiest way to make passive income. On average, the markets have increased about 7% since the beginning of the stock market. So each year, you can average about 7% returns. Adjusting for inflation, this may be closer to growing your money 3-5%. So if you have $100,000 in savings, you make an extra $7,000 per year. But you don’t have to start there. Start with $100. You’ll make about $7 on an average year. And grow from there. The next 5 ways include: Rental Properties Website Ads Selling Stock Photography App Creation Drop Shipping Please subscribe to the channel and leave a comment below! The story of Bernie Madoff's colossal confidence scam and how it both reflected and contributed to the 2008 economic crash. Bernard Lawrence "Bernie" Madoff (April 29, 1938) is an American fraudster and a former stockbroker, investment advisor, and financier. He is the former non-executive chairman of the NASDAQ stock market, and the admitted operator of a Ponzi scheme that is considered the largest financial fraud in U.S. history. Madoff founded the Wall Street firm Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC in 1960, and was its chairman until his arrest on December 11, 2008. The firm was one of the top market maker businesses on Wall Street, which bypassed "specialist" firms by directly executing orders over the counter from retail brokers. He employed at the firm his brother Peter, as senior managing director and chief compliance officer; Peter's daughter Shana Madoff, as the firm's rules and compliance officer and attorney; and his sons Andrew and Mark. Peter has since been sentenced to 10 years in prison and Mark committed suicide by hanging exactly two years after his father's arrest. Andrew died of lymphoma on September 3, 2014. On December 10, 2008, Madoff's sons told authorities that their father had confessed to them that the asset management unit of his firm was a massive Ponzi scheme, and quoted him as describing it as "one big lie". The following day, FBI agents arrested Madoff and charged him with one count of securities fraud. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had previously conducted multiple investigations into Madoff's business practices, but had not uncovered the massive fraud. On March 12, 2009, Madoff pleaded guilty to 11 federal felonies and admitted to turning his wealth management business into a massive Ponzi scheme. The Madoff investment scandal defrauded thousands of investors of billions of dollars. Madoff said he began the Ponzi scheme in the early 1990s. However, federal investigators believe the fraud began as early as the mid-1980s and may have begun as far back as the 1970s. Those charged with recovering the missing money believe the investment operation may never have been legitimate. The amount missing from client accounts, including fabricated gains, was almost $65 billion. The Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) trustee estimated actual losses to investors of $18 billion. On June 29, 2009, Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison, the maximum allowed. High Frequency Trading (HFT) deeply concerns Erik Hunsader, founder of Nanex. The real action happens across fiber-optic cables, on racks of servers in cooled rooms; where an arms race defined by cable length and switching speeds is being waged The reality is that the machines have taken over. When you buy or sell a security, the odds are extremely high the other side of the trade is being placed by an algorithm -- one that cares nothing for the fundamentals of the underlying instrument. It simply is looking to make a quick profit, oftentimes measured in fractions of pennies. And this has vast repercussions for the stability and the fairness of our financial markets. Because of speed advantages, HFT algos can see and react to prices faster than you can. Ridiculously faster. A second on the clock, to an HFT algo, is an eternity. The deep pockets of the firms emplying HFT algos combine with this speed to move asset prices around, sometimes wildly so, faster than most of us can comprehend. In the time it takes for your "real-time" quote system to refresh, an individual stock could have traded many percetages up and/or down -- and you would have no idea. This unfair advantage, along with the short-term profit outlook of the algos, creates the potential for deadly market price downdrafts. Algorithms prefer predictability. If something spooks them (e.g., unexpected breaking news, a delay in the market's opening), they simply stop trading. And -- poof! -- 70% of the market has just disappeared. With no support and no bids, prices can drop dizzyingly fast. Making matters worse, the "smarter" algos can recognize a downdraft in process, and begin piling back into the market on the short side, exacerbating the price declines.

The New York Stock Exchange (sometimes referred to as "the Big Board") provides a means for buyers and sellers to trade shares of stock in companies registered for public trading. The NYSE is open for trading Monday through Friday from 9:30 am -- 4:00 pm ET, with the exception of holidays declared by the Exchange in advance. The NYSE trades in a continuous auction format, where traders can execute stock transactions on behalf of investors. They will gather around the appropriate post where a specialist broker, who is employed by an NYSE member firm (that is, he/she is not an employee of the New York Stock Exchange), acts as an auctioneer in an open outcry auction market environment to bring buyers and sellers together and to manage the actual auction. They do on occasion (approximately 10% of the time) facilitate the trades by committing their own capital and as a matter of course disseminate information to the crowd that helps to bring buyers and sellers together. The auction process moved toward automation in 1995 through the use of wireless hand held computers (HHC). The system enabled traders to receive and execute orders electronically via wireless transmission. On September 25, 1995, NYSE member Michael Einersen, who designed and developed this system, executed 1000 shares of IBM through this HHC ending a 203 year process of paper transactions and ushering in an era of automated trading. As of January 24, 2007, all NYSE stocks can be traded via its electronic hybrid market (except for a small group of very high-priced stocks). Customers can now send orders for immediate electronic execution, or route orders to the floor for trade in the auction market. In the first three months of 2007, in excess of 82% of all order volume was delivered to the floor electronically.[23] NYSE works with US regulators like the SEC and CFTC to coordinate risk management measures in the electronic trading environment through the implementation of mechanisms like circuit breakers and liquidity replenishment points.[24] Until 2005, the right to directly trade shares on the exchange was conferred upon owners of the 1366 "seats". The term comes from the fact that up until the 1870s NYSE members sat in chairs to trade. In 1868, the number of seats was fixed at 533, and this number was increased several times over the years. In 1953, the number of seats was set at 1,366. These seats were a sought-after commodity as they conferred the ability to directly trade stock on the NYSE, and seat holders were commonly referred to as members of the NYSE. The Barnes family is the only known lineage to have five generations of NYSE members: Winthrop H. Barnes (admitted 1894), Richard W.P. Barnes (admitted 1926), Richard S. Barnes (admitted 1951), Robert H. Barnes (admitted 1972), Derek J. Barnes (admitted 2003). Seat prices varied widely over the years, generally falling during recessions and rising during economic expansions. The most expensive inflation-adjusted seat was sold in 1929 for $625,000, which, today, would be over six million dollars. In recent times, seats have sold for as high as $4 million in the late 1990s and as low as $1 million in 2001. In 2005, seat prices shot up to $3.25 million as the exchange entered into an agreement to merge with Archipelago and become a for-profit, publicly traded company. Seat owners received $500,000 in cash per seat and 77,000 shares of the newly formed corporation. The NYSE now sells one-year licenses to trade directly on the exchange. Licences for floor trading are available for $40,000 and a licence for bond trading is available for as little as $1,000 as of 2010.[25] Neither are resell-able, but may be transferable in during the change of ownership of a cooperation holding a trading licence. On February 15, 2011 NYSE and Deutsche Börse announced their merger to form a new company, as yet unnamed, wherein Deutsche Börse shareholders will have 60% ownership of the new entity, and NYSE Euronext shareholders will have 40%. On February 1, 2012, the European Commission blocked the merger of NYSE with Deutsche Börse, after commissioner Joaquin Almunia stated that the merger "would have led to a near-monopoly in European financial derivatives worldwide".[38] Instead, Deutsche Börse and NYSE will have to sell either their Eurex derivatives or LIFFE shares in order to not create a monopoly. On February 2, 2012, NYSE Euronext and Deutsche Börse agreed to scrap the merger.[39] In April 2011, IntercontinentalExchange (ICE), an American futures exchange, and NASDAQ OMX Group had together made an unsolicited proposal to buy NYSE Euronext for approximately US$11 billion, a deal in which NASDAQ would have taken control of the stock exchanges.[40] NYSE Euronext rejected this offer two times, but it was finally terminated after the United States Department of Justice indicated their intention to block the deal due to antitrust concerns. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Stock_Exchange

David gives credit to Ted Butler’s continual analysis of the Commitment of Traders report, which David highlight’s often in his newsletter. The COT report reveals the large paper short and long positions in silver. Currently it appears to be indicating a small downtrend in the silver market. He discusses how silver markets move and how they can be pushed to the downside once investors run low on cash, as banks will short the market at opportune moments. Over the last year the trading has changed dramatically, due to the advent of the Shanghai Gold Exchange, the strength of the long’s appears to be improving, perhaps almost as good as the banking system’s shorts. The open interest continues to grow and the longs are not as scared, they are better capitalized and are much smarter than they used to be. He is looking at the physical market where most dealers have very little silver, at some point the price must move to reflect the true value. David says institutions have left the market and additional buyers of the actual commodity are needed. Any investor who bought under twenty is in a good position as that is near the mining costs. David feels silver is the most honest money, for the average person, historically it’s been money far more often and longer than gold. The leverage you get in good silver equities is phenomenal. First Majestic for example went from $4 to $26 last year. There are many good silver companies with conservative stocks on good exchanges. http://www.sensibleinvesting.tv - impartial information on the benefits of low-cost, long-term and highly diversified investing In this video blog for Sensible Investing, Robin Powell asks Professor Paul Marsh from London Business School what we can learn about investing in emerging markets from studying historical market data. Transcript: Hello again. In our last two videos we've heard from Professor Paul Marsh from London Business School about what history can teach investors in emerging markets. He's one of the authors of the Credit Suisse Global Investment Returns Yearbook, which draws on data spanning 114 years of market history from 25 different countries. Despite two-and-a-half years of poor performance and warnings of more volatility to come, Professor Marsh says now is NOT the time to lose faith in the sector. But what, I asked him, does the data tell us about which trading strategies work best in emerging markets? Interestingly, two factors which ARE important in developed markets, have little or no effect in emerging ones - namely, company size and momentum. "If you look across emerging markets, smaller companies within those markets have done a little better on average than larger companies within those markets, but much lesser the gap, much lesser the premium from smaller companies than you find in developed markets, at least in recent years. Similarly momentum effects seem to be much weaker in emerging markets than in developed markets." But the data does suggest that one factor has an even bigger effect in emerging markets than it does in developed ones... and that is value. Value rather than growth stocks seem to have done especially well in emerging markets rather than developed markets. Value has done well in developed but in emerging markets the difference between value and growths stocks has been even greater. So if you are an investor, who focuses on trying to buy stocks that look cheap, relative to fundamentals like dividends and earnings, you find a very fertile hunting ground in emerging markets. Now we're always hearing in the media that we ought to invest in this or that emerging market. Some prefer, say, India or China, while others favour Eastern Europe, South America or Africa. But never mind the noise... What does the actual data tell us? There doesn´t seem to be a small country effect. You don´t seem to better by investing in smaller emerging markets than in larger ones, nor does there seem to be a momentum effect whereby you do better from investing in winning emerging markets, rather than loosing ones. But there are very strong value effects, so if you invest in the markets which have had the highest dividend yields, you´ve done much better than if you would have invested in markets with the lower dividend yields. Or if you have invested in the countries with the weakest currencies versus the strongest currencies, you have done better from the weakest currencies. And if you look at past GDP growth, you have done best from the countries which have the weakest past growth, rather than the strongest, which suggests again a value effect when you´re looking between and across emerging markets. And, for me, that's the most interesting finding of all. So much of the commentary on emerging market investing in recent years has focused on high growth in the developing world. The reason we need emerging market exposure, we've constantly been told, is that the economic balance is shifting from West to East. But the data tells us that this focus on growth has actually been unhelpful. We'd like to thank Professor Marsh for his insight - and you for watching. Goodbye. When you invest in dividend stocks for the long term, special considerations are required in selecting a stock broker. Today, I share my framework for evaluating brokerages as part of your dividend growth investing strategy. Building a life-changing flow of passive income and cash flow requires 10, 20, or even 30 years of investing and compounding. It's critical to pick a broker that one can trust, a brokerage that will be around for an incredibly long time. I joined host Neil Cavuto on Fox Business to discuss the debate over capping 401(k)s within the tax reform plan and what that could mean for investors' retirements and the market. Check it out. Presentations conducted online pose a number of issues that in-person presentations do not. For example, it can often be difficult for a viewer to read the footnotes/endnotes to a presentation that was conducted live online on their computer monitor at home. Matson Money presentations often depict performance statistics (both actual and hypothetical) for educational purposes, and those sections often have a substantial amount of disclaimers. In recognition of this, Matson Money will provide any footnotes/endnotes to viewers upon request. Discover our straight-forward and easy to use formula for calculating the numbers on a prospective rental property purchase. Welcome to Hipster’s first how-to video! I’m going to show you how to run quick numbers on a rental property. You can use this easy and fast formula for any property you’re looking at. I'll be behind the scenes doing the calculations on my white board and calculator (yes, it really is that big!) to show you how it works. This is an actual rental property I'm using as an example, including the actual purchase price and numbers. (You have to love my handwriting!) You always want to verify the numbers you run before you buy any property (for example, with a property manager), but it helps to do your homework first. This particular house is in Indianapolis and gets $1,075 in rent. It was built in 2002. Super cute little house: three bedroom, two bath. But all we care about right now is the numbers… Want to know more about the latest deals? Subscribe to our Newsletter: http://goo.gl/41tmRK ----- Are you a responsible professional ages 30-49 and want to make smart investments? Have you thought about real estate investing but ruled it out because it sounded complicated or risky? Do you want to grow your money, but are worried about scams and ripoffs? Are you a cool person who I’d just enjoy saying “hi” to? If you answered "YES" to any of those questions, then we should talk. I help people just like you to find smart, safe, passive real estate investments so your money is working hard for you, even if you lack real estate investing knowledge. If you're cautious or nervous, then I can help you get educated on the best real estate investments possible and guide you towards getting that first investment property under your belt. When the passive income starts flowing, you'll be hooked and be ready for more properties, and I can introduce you to actual high quality deals and partners that I would, and do, actually invest in myself. I promise, I won’t refer you to anyone I haven’t personally bought through myself. (true story)
